On paper, the Wiki Hat is an award, but I definitely feel like people treat it more as a reward nowadays.
I will say the original genuine-quality version of the Wiki Hat feels more like an award because I'm assuming back then the developers were going out of their way to grant it to the wiki staffs.
As for the strange-quality ones, pretty much everyone who received one begged for it. (me included...)

I definitely feel like X and JP are the "scaffolding" for the wiki (doing all the coding lifting). If they weren't here, the wiki would still have looked like any other basic wiki. Both of them are the reason why the site looks so polished.
