The Avenger is a primary weapon for the Mechanic. It is a wooden pump-action shotgun with a golden body that has an engraved bull on both sides and a grey barrel.
Compared to the Shotgun, the Avenger has half the clip size and total reserve ammo, though it is 20% more accurate. In addition, when the Mechanic's Sentry is destroyed, he will gain "revenge crits" based on the amount of kills the sentry had collected, with 2 revenge crits stored for every kill. The max amount of crits you can store is 35.
A revenge crit provides the Mechanic with a critical-boosted shot, shown by the effect applied to the gun and are granted regardless of how the sentry was destroyed, including intentionally demolishing it. No revenge crits will be given if: an Agent feigns a death with the Dead Ringer, the Sentry got an assist or if the Sentry's rockets killed the player.
Revenge crits will remain for the entirety of the Mechanic's lifespan; if the Mechanic dies or when the sentry is destroyed while the Mechanic is dead, all revenge crits stored will be lost. If the Mechanic does have revenge crits, but is crit-boosted from another source, such as the Kritzkrieg's SuperCharge or the Buff Banner in Vs. Bosses, the revenge crits will be consumed anyways.

Tips[]
- Your Sentry should be built in more aggressive areas, where kills will be awarded relatively easily.
- This aggressive play style makes the P.D.Q an excellent wrench to go along with it, due to the much higher construction speed. It also allows you to have a much faster-paced playstyle.
- A great spot to put a sentry is a place where no one expects it, as a few will run into it and grant you kills. They will then destroy the sentry because they now know it's there, doing your job for you.
- Revenge crits should be used sparingly, as the weapon's small clip gives you a disadvantage in single combat.
- The Avenger's higher accuracy means it works better at longer ranges than the Shotgun, though it is still quite useless at range. The Pistol is a good secondary to take with the Avenger as it covers the gun's weakness at range or provides you a fallback if you don't have time to reload in a fight.
- Revenge crits will only be given when a Sentry is destroyed; you can take advantage of this by demolishing your sentry to "cash in" on any kills it has gained. Keep in mind, however, that this is a risky strategy that should only be used in dire situations, while advancing on offense, or fighting with the more disposable Mini-Sentry. Try to cash in during a quiet period; this will allow you to rebuild and re-upgrade your Sentry in peace, while also having critical hits on hand in the event of an ambush.
- Checking for Agents with revenge crits is often unwise, especially if the Agent is equipped with a Dead Ringer. Try to take note of any watches the enemy team has and adjust accordingly.
- You should always be conscious about whether to take out the Avenger with revenge crits when not ready to fire. While it can scare off stray targets, its glow can make you a target for enemy Marksmen.

Trivia[]
- This weapon was previously known as the Frontier Justice.
- The original animations were taken from Arsenal's Mossberg 500.
- The design of the current model is based on a combination of Browning Auto-5 and Winchester Model 1866.
- The 2019 model is based on the Ithaca 37 shotgun, modified to have a slightly longer barrel, an ejection port on the left side of the gun and a sling.
- Ammo-pellet sockets were found in the original 2019 model, but due to a potential lag-increase they've used the socket-less version of the weapon.
