Crates are purchasable items in the shop that, when interacted with in a player's inventory, will unbox a cosmetic (or a weapon if it is labeled as such) that can be applied to the class it has been unlocked for. The unobtained items will initially be received to the player upon each unlocks.

All crates contain a selection of items determined by the crates type. Cosmetic crates have a 1% chance of uncrating an Unusual cosmetic. If a crate is labelled as Genuine-quality, it instead is guaranteed to contain an unusual cosmetic.

Most crates cost 100 Funds, with event crates usually costing 125-150 Funds.

If the user is located in a country that bans loot boxes, they will be unable to access the 'Crates' tab in the Fitten Co. Store.

Trivia

• There was going to be a crate that contained Strange weapons in the Typical Horrors update - which would have made it the first of its kind to drop weapons instead of cosmetics - but was later scrapped in favor of item drops.
  • The Strange crates were later introduced in Item Schema.
• Crates, and the ability to purchase them in the shop, were officially added in the September 11, 2017 update. However, they were not functional and could not be opened until the September 18, 2017 rehaul update.
  • The ability to unlock Unusual items would be added the following day.
• At one point, keys (which were only obtainable through Robux purchases) were required to open crates, but these have since been removed entirely from the game in the September 2, 2019 update.
  • The price for crates at this time were 10 funds, which is the same price as a weapon.
• Players previously had the chance to unlock unusual cosmetics that were not from the crate they opened. This was patched in the February 9, 2021 update, although temporarily reinstated in the Item Schema update.
  • This also means that certain unusual hats, such as the ultra rare Stainless Pot, are no longer obtainable.
• The Halloween 2018 Costume Crate was the only crate to have contained cosmetics that had holiday restrictions, although said restrictions were removed on March 25, 2021.
