The Shotgun is the default secondary weapon for the Trooper, Arsonist, Brute, and the default primary weapon for the Mechanic. It is a fully sawn-off Remington Model 870 pump-action shotgun with a wooden pump and grip.
The weapon fires ten pellets per shot, each dealing up to 9 damage per pellet, giving the Shotgun a maximum damage output of 90 if all pellets connect. However, it suffers from damage fall-off and has a wide spread, making it ineffective at long range.

Tips[]
General[]
Trooper[]
- The hitscan bullets, large clip size and moderate damage at range make the weapon a good fallback plan for the Rocket Launcher and your primary medium range firearm, being able to take down most classes, except for an enemy Trooper or full-health Brute, with one clip.
- As this weapon fires hitscan bullets, it is a useful option for destroying enemy stickybombs and is a powerful weapon against Arsonists, who would otherwise reflect your rockets should you approach with the Rocket Launcher.
- As the Shotgun doesn't deal splash damage to you, this is a good weapon to use when in close-quarters combat.
- If you are confronted with a group of enemies, you can use the Rocket Launcher as you will be able to take some out even if you do die.
- The Shotgun is a good weapon to pair with primary weapons with lower clip sizes such as the Blackbox, or lower damage, such as the Liberty Launcher as it will make up for your lack of firepower.
Arsonist[]
- The Shotgun's decent clip-size and high point-blank damage make it a reliable firearm to use, even by itself. However, it is less effective at range, so look for opportunities to get close to opponents.
- Because of the weapon's hitscan nature, it is a powerful option when facing an enemy Arsonist, as you can outrange his Flamethrower with your Shotgun. As Arsonists cannot take afterburn, it puts you at an advantage against enemies equipped with the Flare Gun or Detonator.
- This weapon is useful in several situations:
- Sneaking is much more effective due to the Shotgun's smaller model compared with the Arsonist's flamethrowers; its decent damage means you won't be helpless if you're caught
- The weapon is a great alternative to situations where the flamethrower's short range won't protect you. In addition, its hitscan bullets allow you to damage foes at medium range while retreating or capturing an objective
- Use the weapon to damage enemies set on fire. It may be enough to lower their health to the point where afterburn will finish them off.
- The Shotgun synergizes well with your airblast; push a foe away, then immediately switch to the Shotgun and fire to deal immense damage.
- The Degreaser is an excellent weapon for this tactic due to its faster switch and holster speeds.
Brute[]
- The Shotgun allows you to stay mobile during a fight, whereas the Minigun would only slow you down due to its movement reduction while spun up.
- Consider equipping this weapon if there are many Doctors on your team, as replenishing health isn't an issue.
- Keep in mind that the lack of a Brash Burger means that you and your teammates will need to rely on health packs and Doctors to stay alive. Memorization of health pack locations is especially useful should you need to retreat.
- The Shotgun is a useful way to bait enemies around corners if going around it is too dangerous with the Minigun or you're low on health. The Tomislav is an effective weapon for this strategy as enemies won't know you're spun up until it's too late.
- The Shotgun can be used as a "Backup Minigun" for crowd control in case of your Primary running out of ammo, still being able to deal moderate damage to multiple enemies, albeit with less rapid fire.
Mechanic[]
- Out of all the Mechanic's available primary weapons, the Shotgun is the most versatile and reliable due to its large clip size and lack of reliance on Dispensers, Sentry Guns, or enemy positioning.
- The Shotgun's wide spread makes it very useful when checking for Agents. Fire at corners, "teammates" or in an Agent's general direction and look for the telltale signs.
- Build your Sentry in places where you can group up enemies if you plan to stick next to it. The sentry will soften up any approaching enemies for a Shotgun blast.
- If an Agent is sapping your buildings, retaliate with the Shotgun and kill the Agent before removing the Sapper.
- The wide bullet spread means it is useless in long-range combat. If you are engaged in these ranges, switch to the Pistol instead.
Vs. Bosses[]
- The shotgun is not really effective outside of when only 2 players are remaining so use it in case the server is small.
- Outside of that situation the weapon is not really recommended and all classes who can use this have better secondaries or primaries.

- The 2016 model of the weapon was taken from a Team Fortress 2 custom weapon called, Corporate Cannon.
- The 2016 model is now used as a placeholder model for the shotgun in the game files, albeit transparent.
- The previous 2016 model was taken from a Team Fortress 2 custom weapon called, Hunting Shotgun.
- The original 2016 model was taken from a Team Fortress 2 custom weapon called, SPAS 12 but untextured.
- Originally there was different names for the Shotgun for each class.
- In Typical Colors and during the Pre-Rehaul phase, the Shotgun was split into 4 different weapons.
- The Military Shotgun for Trooper, The Flare Shotgun for Arsonist, The Combat Shotgun for Brute, and the Mechanical Shotgun for Mechanic.
- In Typical Colors, each one of the Shotguns had unique stats, however upon the release of TC2, the Shotguns had their stats changed to generally be more similar to Team Fortress 2's Shotgun. And it also known as Mini Shotgun in Typical Colors.
