This page stands as a general list of rules/guidelines to follow when you edit a page.

Otherwise, here's some stuff to follow to start editing here on the Typical Colors 2 Wiki:

General

  • When editing a page in general, always ask yourself "Is this really worth adding to the page?" before you click the "Save" button.
    • There are some exceptions, most commonly adding a description to weapons. If the visuals or even the name alone explain itself, then it's usually best to leave it as is.
  • This wiki uses a lot of advanced features, which leads to Visual editor often not working. It is highly recommended that you use source editor if you want to be able to consistently contribute.
  • Keep the style of text informal in most cases.
  • It's usually okay to edit the visual stats of weapons as long as it fits what their currently displayed stats are in-game.
    • Mods do make mistakes and revert edits that change how the stats visually, so it's recommended to add a reason that explains why you did so to reduce the chances of it being reverted.
      • You can add a comment in visual editor by clicking the button to create one at the top. With source editor, use <!-- to start a comment and --> to end a comment
  • Quotes relevant to the subject matter go at the top of pages
  • Never label the opening paragraphs with "Overview", as it's already assumed that the first few paragraphs are an overview, and doesn't add anything.
  • When creating a page, one thing that is most important to ask yourself is "Does this page have enough information on it to warrant creating at the moment?"
    • If you do have enough information, then it's okay to go ahead and make it. Other wiki members will pitch in to help clean up and add more info that they find to the page.
    • If you don't, it's usually best to analyze footage from games of TC2 on YouTube, or play the game yourself to find more information on said page you want to create.
    • It will also usually help to create a blog page for storing all the current information you may have on it.
  • We always put this placeholder image to articles with no pictures but has one in the source. It does not matter if you think the image does not look good in your opinion, as the said placeholder image is technically official.

Source Basics

This section talks about source editor, and when you decide to do more than fix a spelling error and instead decide to make a significant portion of a page.

  • Page headings are usually typed as:

=='''This Is An Example'''==

  • Consider making redirects. If you constantly misremember a weapon's name, make a redirect for it. Create the page, open source editor, and type #redirect [[page you want to redirect to]].
    • If someone clicks a link onto a redirect page, it will instead send them to the redirect destination.
    • If someone searches up a redirect page, it will show the redirect destination in the place of the redirect page.
  • Tables are normally sorted by class, and then by what type of thing the subject is. An example can be seen here.
    • The table is sorted by the classes, and then further sorted by whether it's a cosmetic or weapon.
    • All images used to represent something, whether that be a class, weapon, item or map, should have the name of it below the image and linked to where it should go.
  • If you want to put a table of contents in a specific spot, put __TOC__ where you want it.
    • If a page doesn't have an infobox, consider putting {{TOCright}} at the top of the article to put the TOC on the right, like on this page.
  • Templates are extraordinarily helpful when creating a page, as they allow for streamlining the creation of a page.
    • Use {{ to use a template, and make sure it's closed with }}.
    • If you're trying to make a table listing some information that could be used on more than one page, try putting it in a template. You can create a template by searching up Template:(whatever you want your template's name to be) and clicking on the create the page button.

Advanced Source

  • Sometimes, there is a vertical tabber that can be seen in a few pages such as Item drops. This is known as the BalancedTabber programmed by Hummel009 and can be installed to the MediaWiki:ImportJS anytime if you'd like.
