Ultimatum, Mathematically

Sometimes, I get the feeling that people don't understand how bad the Ultimatum is. The thing is, since it behaves exactly like stock, it's easy to get very exact comparisons between the two. Which is what this is. A look at the Ultimatum, from a mathematical lens.

An important concept to understand going into this is opportunity cost. Google defines it as "the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen". In this context, opportunity cost will usually be referring to stock, as 1) it's stock and 2) the Ultimatum plays identically to stock, meaning there is no potential for easier gain; if a player hit a shot with the Ultimatum, they'd've hit it with stock and vice versa.

Tirade Against Template:Gallery

I dislike Template:Gallery.

Scrolling and expanding content are different actions. No matter how easy it is to do one or the other or both, there is still the requirement to stop one action and start another. Which is the main reason why collapsible content should be used sparingly. You have to ask yourself the question, "is the inconvenience of expanding this content less than the inconvenience caused by scrolling past the content?" If the answer is no, the content shouldn't be collapsible.

One may wonder when I'm talking about collapsible content when we're talking about galleries. That's because Template:Gallery uses tabbers, which are essentially just a collection of mutually-exclus…

Should the Wiki Move?

I've seen a certain sentiment regarding the wiki come up every once in a while, being that the wiki should go independent and self-host, usually in response to some ad-related thing. However, I don't think that this is a simple decision.

The main motivator for this discussion is Fandom's monetization model, being ads. More specifically, the quantity of them, which is often considered extreme (I personally do not think it's as bad as people make it out to be, but I know that's an unpopular opinion). This has led to some members expressing their interest in switching, but I'd like to really look at what switching would mean for this wiki.

Pros and cons are sorted from most significant to least significant. All points raised are discussed in th…
