The Widowmaker is a primary weapon for the Mechanic. It's an UTAS UTS-15 bullpup shotgun with ridged black pieces covering the main body and the stock. It has been modified to be semi-automatic and able to fire metal.
Unlike his other primary weapons, the Widowmaker uses the Mechanic's metal supply as its ammunition source; each shot consumes 30 metal, letting the Mechanic fire the weapon six times without requiring additional metal, with no reload necessary. Upon hitting an enemy player or building, all damage dealt is returned as metal; because of this, it is possible to return a metal amount greater than what the Widowmaker consumed to fire the shot.
The Widowmaker itself has 50% more damage ramp-up (which means this weapon awards you with more damage if you shoot up close) than the Shotgun, though the weapon fires 20% slower to compensate.
With practice, you can become highly effective as an offensive powerhouse with the Widowmaker. Continuous short-range combat allows you to retain metal far away from your Dispenser, and the ability to continue firing without reloading gives you an edge against slower classes.

Tips
- Because of the +50% more rampup, you'll have a serious advantage against classes who like to get close to you (such as Flankers).
- Pick off long-range targets with your secondary weapon instead of the Widowmaker; doing so prevents wasting metal.
- The Pistol and especially the Conventional are the most reliable choices for this purpose, as they have a massive ammo pool independent of the Mechanic's metal supply.
- The Noisy Cricket is the runner-up for best pick due to its ability to refill metal on hit, although its halved clip size makes it unreliable for sustained ranged fights.
- The Short Circuit, like the Widowmaker, requires metal, and the Wrangler requires a Sentry, both of which are not guaranteed.
- Make sure you have sufficient metal to fight enemies at all times; you are highly vulnerable at close range if you cannot use your primary weapon.
- If you're struggling to aim or if you want more shots with the Widowmaker, assort with the Heavy Metal secondary for more metal capacity to practice aiming overtime or to get more shots to be able to shut down enemies with less of a worry. (You must be careful, however. If you still run out of metal, you'll need to resort to using your Wrench to get an enemy to drop some.)
- Due to its increased damage over stock at full ramp-up, this weapon can theoretically 3-shot Brutes at base health, assuming all the pellets happen to land. Just make sure to catch them off guard and strafe around them to avoid being shot.
