The Wrench is the stock melee weapon for the Mechanic. It is a pipe wrench with a team-colored handle.
It is the Mechanic's main expedient; not only does it serve as the standard weapon for attacking, but also helps boost construction build rate, upgrade and repair buildings and remove sappers.

Tips
- Do not be afraid to use the Wrench as a melee weapon, as it still deals a hefty 65 damage per hit.
- Cloaked and disguised Agents can easily be defeated with the stock Wrench.
- The Wrench does the same damage as all of the Annihilator's swords. Most Annihilators forget this and will be shocked when they die first in a melee battle against you.
- When you place a building down, keep hitting it with your Wrench to perform a "construction boost". This will make the building activate faster within 5 seconds. Buildings that don't get construction boosted take at least a whole 15 seconds to activate.
- The Wrench is a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. This means that if the other wrenches prove too difficult to get adjusted to, or if the game state does not call for anything specific, this is still a very fine choice. In other words, if you prefer to have a construction boost bonus while simultaneously keeping high burst healing to remain as flexible as possible, the stock Wrench is an excellent choice.
- Make sure to try to stay within 6 studs of your enemy to hit them.
